Description Ammonium permease of high capacity and low affinity; belongs to Mep-Amt-Rh family of well-conserved ammonium (NH4+) transporters that includes the human Rh factors; expression is under the nitrogen catabolite repression regulation ammonia permease activity regulated by TORC1 effectors, Npr1p and Par32p; MEP3 has a paralog, MEP1, that arose from the whole genome duplication
